    Bob Bever 2022 Art Vivian Distinguished Community Leader Award

    The firm is proud to report that Partner, Bob Bever, was the recipient of this year’s Wayne County Distinguished Community Leadership Award, which was presented by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce at it’s Annual Dinner in January. The honor recognizes Bob’s extensive contributions and leadership with multiple community organizations, as well as his professional assistance with many clients of the business community over the years through his practice of law. His community involvement includes thirty years on the Chamber’s Board of Directors, including serving as its past Chair; twenty years on the Board of Directors for Forest Hills Country Club, including serving as its President on two different occasions; twenty years on the YMCA Board of Directors; a member of the Junior Achievement Board of Directors; being appointed as City Attorney for the City of Richmond for eight years; serving as Chair of the Wayne County Republican Party; and his continuing service on the Reid Health Foundation Board of Directors.

    Bob’s past honors include being inducted into the Eastern Indiana Business Hall of Fame, and being the recipient of the Governor’s highest honor as Sagamore of the Wabash.

    Bob’s continued law practice includes representing business interests of his many clients; estate planning and administration; and municipal law.

    Partner, A.J. Sickmann, will be replacing Bob on the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

    BBFCS Partner, AJ Sickmann, has been selected to the 2020 Indiana Rising Stars list. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state under the age of 40 are selected to receive this honor. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The result is a comprehensive and diverse listing of exceptional attorneys.

    BBFCS Partner, Ron Cross, Steps Down as President of the Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association

    Following a busy spring of Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) activities and events, BBFCS partner Ron Cross concluded his term of office as the president of IMLA at its annual June meeting held in Carmel, Indiana. The annual meeting was part of the IMLA’s Municipal Law Seminar XXXVI. Membership of the association consists of approximately three hundred fifty (350) Indiana attorneys whose practices involve, to some degree, the representation of Indiana cities, towns, township, counties and/or other public entities. Ron is pictured here receiving a plaque from Jodie Woods, IMLA Executive Director and General Counsel to Accelerating Indiana Municipalities (“AIM”), in recognition of his service in 2018-2019 as president of the association. Ron will continue to be a member of the IMLA Board of Directors serving in an ex-officio capacity as Immediate Past President.

    In March of 2019, Ron, along with several other Indiana attorneys, attended the International Municipal Lawyers Associations mid-year four-day conference in Washington, D.C. That event was attended by over three hundred (300) municipal lawyers from across the nation who attended presentations on multiple legal challenges and issues facing municipalities in all states, covering topics including the ability of an agency to regulate cell tower and small communication devices; recent developments in the SEC’s governance of public debt issues; and updates on pertinent state and federal case law developments and US Supreme Court decisions.

    At its annual meeting held June 21, 2018, in Noblesville, Indiana, BBFCS partner Ron Cross was elected by the Board of Directors of the Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association (“IMLA”) to serve as president of the IMLA for its 2018-2019 fiscal year. Ron is currently serving a second three-year term on the IMLA Board of Directors. The IMLA is an association of approximately three hundred fifty (350) Indiana attorneys whose practices entail to a significant degree the representation of Indiana cities, towns, counties or other such public bodies.     Robert L. (Bob) Bever is a partner with Boston Bever Klinge Cross & Chidester; is a 1975 graduate of DePauw University with distinction and a 1978 Graduate of Indiana University Law School, Indianapolis, Magna Cum Laude. His practice centers on business and commercial transactions; estate planning and administration; banking and municipal law. Clients include numerous local businesses (being involved in numerous multimillion dollar transactions), banks, civic organizations, and he represents BSN Sports, LLC, nationally in its business acquisitions around the nation. He also served as Richmond City Attorney from 1995 – 2003. Honors include being inducted into the Eastern Indiana Business Hall of Fame in 2016; being inducted into Whos Who in American Law; and is the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Governor of Indiana. He has also served as President of the local Chamber of Commerce and as Chair of the local Republican party.

    BBFCS Partner Thanked for Over Forty Years of Service to Client

    BBFCS partner attorney Ron Cross is pictured above as he is presented a plaque from Ms. Dixie Robinson, president of the Richmond Community Schools Board of School Trustees. The surprise recognition commemorated Ron’s more than forty (40) consecutive years of service as chief legal counsel to Richmond Community Schools. Ron began his representation of RCS in 1977 while then affiliated with the former Richmond law firm of Reller, Mendenhall, Kleinknecht & Milligan. Over the next forty years Ron estimates that he has attended more than 1,500 school board meetings and worked with more than 12 different superintendents. Ron’s representation includes almost all areas of law that impact public education from labor and employment law to aspects of regulatory compliance. For more than 12 years Ron served as the chief negotiator on the RCS collective bargaining team that negotiated collective bargaining agreements with the RCS teachers’ association. Ron continues to represent RCS and other school corporations in the Wayne County area. The attorneys at BBFCS are chief counsel for several school corporations in the greater Richmond/Wayne County area. Please contact them if you have any legal needs related to public education.
